Politics: Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has also Condemned the calls for Yoruba Nation
A statement was sent to Harotechgists. by the Nigerian's former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on Wednesday May 5, as Baba played host to the members of Tub Professional Groups at Abeokuta, Ogun State.
In his words:
"I do believe that whatever we're going to do, we have to make the year 2023 a watershed for Nigeria. The year 2023 should give us the beginning of the emergence of a new federation or failing that, and the rot continues, then we are going to be sliding back to ground dissolution. God forbid."
Definitely, Obasanjo has also condemned the calls for the Nations break up by some ethnic advocates.
The formal president also described the calls for Nigeria's break up as unmindful and insensitive to the plight of minority groups in the country.
He expressed worry over what would become of the minority ethnic groups if the major tribes such as Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba decided to secede and begin to operate as separate countries.
Before then, the senior special Assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, has stated during an interview on channel TV on March 26th that, "The presidency had also reacted to secession agitator in the country, saying nobody can bring down the government of president Muhammad Buhari.
The presidential spokesman further described the secession agitators as "charlatans" sponsored to bully the president, thinking he will be panic or cower.
Further more, the national leader of the APC, Bola Ahamed Tinubu has also kicked against the calls for break up, He said: "Nigeria is better as one country than separate countries."
Tinubu warned those who were beating the drums of war to remember what such actions had caused to countries like Sudan and Iraq.
He said this while giving a speech at a special Ramadan prayer in Lagos State on Sunday May 2nd.
This article concerned everyone of this country, so as a good citizen of Nigeria, what is your own opinion to this matter, are you also in support of the calls for secession or not, and why?
Talk your own.
Actually, the way our leaders leading this country is not really good enough, but I think been divided is not the solution, the only solution we have now is unity and harmony and we should keep on praying that God should choose a good leader for us. That's my own.
